That was the latest World Health Organization's ranking of the U.S. health care system. Yet we Americans spend a greater percentage of our Gross Domestic Product on health care than any other country. Our system's ability to cover its costs is in grave doubt. And the number of those underserved by the system continues to rise at an unprecedented rate. Americans without medical insurance now number 50 million, five times the number as recently as 2000.
What a perfect time for important, new discoveries and new models to care for people.
Fixing America's health care crisis -- its quality shortcomings, its unaffordability, its shifting business models, its aging population, its lack of readiness for the next disaster -- has to start somewhere. Or this country is in serious trouble.
